At Newman Smith High School
played for head coach Robert Boone… caught 53 passes for 948 yards and scored eight touchdowns in his senior season with the Trojans… had three carries for 46 yards and a touchdown… earned 5-5A first-team all-district honors as a wide receiver… returned nine kick offs for 341 yards and had an 84-yard kickoff return… returned three punts for 128 yards and had an 82-yard punt return… made 21 tackles on defense, including 15 solo tackles… intercepted four passes and defended five passes for the Trojans … scored 13 total touchdowns in his senior season… caught three two-point conversions and accounted for 84 points… named the Built Ford Tough Texas High School Football Player of the Week for Class 5A following a 43-42 victory over Denton on Aug. 26, when he caught 10 passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns… also had three interceptions, returning one for a touchdown… "He is obviously our No. 1 wide receiver, and he did an outstanding job. Defensively, we needed him, and he jumped in and took over the game. He was a part of all special teams play. He makes a significant difference any time he is on the field,” said Boone.
