Former Midwestern State linebacker Matt Ellerbrock is in his first season as a coach on the MSU staff, working with the defensive line.

The two-time honorable mention All-Lone Star Conference performer started 44 of 46 career games for the Mustangs at linebacker, recording 231 career tackles (an average of 5.0 per game), including 28.0 tackles for losses with 7.0 quarterback sacks. He never finished lower than fourth on the MSU tackle chart in any season for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs captain his senior season, he was named Lone Star Conference Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the LSC Championship clinching win at No. 12 West Texas A&M. His performance led MSU to Lone Star Conference Championships in 2009, 2011 and 2012, and to postseason play every year.

Ellerbrock is the son of Mike and Elaine Ellerbrock of Garland.
