Josh Atkinson

Josh Atkinson begins his first season an assistant coach at Midwestern State in 2022 charged with mentoring wide receivers.

The native of Carrollton, Texas served the last two seasons as an offensive graduate assistant at Baylor.

Atkinson helped the resurgent Bears to a 12-2 record in 2021 including wins in the Big 12 Championship Game and the All State Sugar Bowl after suffering through a 2-7 season in 2020.

Prior to Baylor, Atkinson worked two years as a graduate assistant at his alma mater, Tulsa.

Playing Career

Atkinson enjoyed a stellar career as a four-year letter winner and three-year starter at Tulsa.

The 6-2, 208-pound wide receiver closed his career with 2,654 yards on 202 receptions including a pair of 1,000-yard seasons.

Atkinson, who was named to the preseason watch list for the Fred Biletnikoff Award, made 78 receptions for 1,058 yards and eight touchdowns to help the Golden Hurricane to a 10-3 record and a 55-10 win over Central Michigan in the 2016 Miami Beach Bowl.

He made 76 catches for 1,071 yards in a breakout junior campaign in 2015 helping Tulsa to an appearance in the Camping World Independence Bowl.

Atkinson prepped at The Oakridge School and won a state title in 2011. 

Personal

Atkinson earned a degree in communication from Tulsa in 2016. He is married to the former Jodi Edmiston, a four-year softball letter winner at TU.
