Carl C. Coleman started at Midwestern State University in 2026, serving as the Mustangs’ linebackers coach. Coleman brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to Wichita Falls, including extensive experience as a defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, defensive backs coach, linebackers coach and recruiting coordinator.
Coleman came to Midwestern State after five seasons at Methodist University (2021–2025), including four seasons directing the Monarch defense. He joined Methodist in 2021 as co-defensive coordinator and defensive line coach before assuming defensive coordinator responsibilities in 2022.
Prior to Methodist, Coleman spent seven seasons at the University of Dubuque, where his defenses developed into some of the most productive units in the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference and American Rivers Conference.
Throughout his career, Coleman’s defenses have been built around a consistent philosophy: stop the run, eliminate explosive plays, create takeaways, pressure the quarterback and play with relentless effort.
His units have ranked among conference and national leaders in total defense, scoring defense, rushing defense, pass-efficiency defense, interceptions and turnover margin.
Coleman’s career has also been defined by player development. His defenses have produced conference defensive MVPs, All-Americans, All-Region performers and numerous All-Conference selections, while several players he has coached have continued their careers at the professional level.
