WHAT IS THE MUSTANGS ATHLETIC CLUB?
The Mustangs Athletic Club is the booster club for MSU athletics. It's memberships consists of those individuals who are willing to make a financial commitment to the future of the MSU athletics program. Since its formation in 1970, members of the Mustangs Athletic Club have contributed more than $2.5 million to the MSU athletics program, helping the Mustangs earn respect on the state, regional and national levels.
WHY IS THE CLUB NECESSARY?
The State of Texas provides no direct support for intercollegiate athletic programs. Instead, state colleges and universities must rely on student activity fees, gate receipts and private contributions in order to fund their athletic programs.
HOW ARE THE CLUB FUNDS USED?
Mustangs Athletic Club funds are used to support such activities as recruiting, travel, promotion, scholarships in all sports, as well as athlete recognition awards, such as letter jackets.
WHAT KINDS OF GIFTS ARE ACCEPTABLE?
Cash Gifts provide immediate help to the athletics program. Contributions may be given in any amount and may be made in installments. Checks should be made payable to the Mustangs Athletic Club. Gifts In Kind can greatly reduce operating costs. Examples of goods and services that might be donated in lieu of cash gifts are the use of automobiles, hotel rooms, printing, meals and athletic equipment and supplies. Gifts of Stock or other appreciated property, such as real estate, corporate stocks and bonds, etc., can have significant tax benefits for the donor while providing a major source of support for the Mustangs Athletic Club. Matching Gifts are offered by many companies, and you do receive credit for both your gift and your employer's matching gift. Check with your company to see if it offers a matching gift program.
