Midwestern State opened its season with memorable 97-90 opening-night win over UCCS in
Jon Trilli's debut as head coach at MSU.
Jonathan Jackson hit 9-of-12 shots from 3-point range on his way to 31 points, and
DaCannon Wesley blocked eight shots and grabbed eight rebounds for the Mustangs, who had five players in double figures and shot 53.3 percent from the floor. The following day, CSU-Pueblo held Midwestern State 31 percent shooting and outrebounded the Mustangs, 48-38, en route to a 72-60 victory.
Midwestern State is on the road this week to face two more schools from the RMAC. Thursday night, the Mustangs visit Adams State in Alamosa, Colorado, which is 2-1 to start the season with wins over UT Permian Basin and Northwestern Oklahoma State. The Grizzlies suffered a 68-61 loss at Angelo State on Saturday.
The Mustangs will also visit Western Colorado in Gunnison, Colorado, for a Saturday afternoon clash. The Mountaineers will play Cameron on Thursday before facing the Stangs. Western Colorado lost its first two games to Angelo State and UT Permian Basin.Â
