DENVER — Midwestern State played MSU Denver to a 2-2 draw at The Assembly Athletics Complex on Sunday. After a scoreless first half, the Mustangs scored twice after halftime and finished with 10 shots, including six on goal.
The Mustangs generated the first attacking push of the half, with
Alan Rivera taking a shot in the fifth minute, a corner kick following shortly after and
Parker Plaxco forcing a save from Dominic Miller at 8:32. MSU Denver answered with pressure of its own, but
Jake Morris made saves in the 11th and 22nd minutes around a Roadrunners corner to keep the half scoreless. The Maroon & Gold earned another corner in the 29th minute and had
Eduardo Cerna put shots over the top in the 30th and 41st minutes. The closing stretch turned more physical, including a yellow card to
Skyler Krchnak in the 37th minute, but the Mustangs reached halftime in a 0-0 match.
Midwestern State answered MSU Denver's opener in the second half and moved in front within a five-minute span, with Victor Hernandez scoring off
Ethan Krchnak's assist at 58:44 to tie it 1-1 and
Jose Ortiz finishing
Oscar Nunez's setup at 63:22 for a 2-1 lead. Earlier in the half, Morris made a save on Ismael Reyes before Rhyson Johnston put the Roadrunners ahead at 56:57. After Hernandez's equalizer, the Mustangs generated four shots and a corner from 59:06 to 66:41, including saved attempts by Ortiz,
Cooper Tea and Rivera around Ortiz's goal. MSU Denver tied it on Jace Starling's goal at 78:13, and the Maroon & Gold played through three fouls and an
