WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State extended its unbeaten streak to 20 games with a 1-0 victory at St. Edward's on Wednesday night and returns home on Saturday for a noon match with Texas A&M International at Stang Park. The Mustangs have a five-game winning streak and are 2-0-0 at home this season.
 
Midwestern State (7-0-2) scored the only goal of the game at St. Edward's as goalkeeper Jake Morris played a long ball to Parker Plaxco, who headed the ball into the path of Lawrence Doe, Jr. Doe made a run to the byline on the right side and played a low cross to the back post. Defender Jackson Stubbs slid in and attempted a clearance for the Hilltoppers, but the ball popped up to the chest of Alan Rivera, who volleyed it into the back of the net for his second goal of the season in the 62nd minute.
 
The Mustangs have the best goal differential in the conference, and they are fourth in NCAA Division II at plus-18, outscoring the opposition through the first eight games this season, 25-7.
 
Plaxco, the Lone Star Conference Offensive Player of the Week, has scored four goals in the last four games for the Mustangs, including two game-winning goals against Cal Poly Pomona and Western Oregon. Plaxco is the third leading goal scorer in the Lone Star Conference with five goals this season.
 
Jose Ortiz is the leading goal scorer in the LSC with seven, including a four-goal outburst in the season-opening 5-0 win over Cal State East Bay in Richardson, Texas. Ortiz scored the game-winning goal against Simon Fraser. The senior transfer from SMU is 11th in NCAA Division II among goal scorers.
 
Ten Mustangs have scored goals this season. Rivera, Doe, Cooper Tea, Juan David Valencia Vacca, and Italo Rodriguez have all scored twice this season. Victor Hernandez III, Cristopher Guevara and Liam Kervick have all found the back of the net once this season.
 
Ethan Krchnak leads the Mustangs with four assists, and MSU is 11th in the nation with 20 assists, which is second-most in the LSC. Cooper Tea, and Oscar Nunez have each accounted for three assists. Davis Mays and Tanner Tea have two assists apiece. Valencia, Hernandez and Eduardo Cerna each have one assist for the Stang Gang.
 
Midwestern State is second in the league with 7.8 points per game, which is 13th in the nation, and the Mustangs are second in the LSC with 2.2 assists per game.
 
Midwestern State is outshooting opponents 146-98, and the Mustangs are putting 44 percent of their shots on frame, while opponents are putting 40.1 percent of their shots on goal.
 
Jake Morris, the LSC Goalkeeper of the Week, has played 810 minutes and has a save percentage of .825 with a 0.78 goals-against average. Morris made a critical save late in the game against Western Oregon on the recent road trip and made a season-high six saves in a 6-1 win over Colorado Mesa earlier this season. The junior from Parker, Colorado, has made five saves twice this season. He made three saves for the fourth time this year in the win over Simon Fraser. Morris made two saves against St. Edward's for his third clean sheet of the campaign.
 
Texas A&M International (3-2-2, 0-0-1) opened conference play at home in Laredo on Wednesday night and played a 0-0 draw with West Texas A&M. Junior goalkeeper Benjamin Hafner made his first appearance for the Dustdevils and made three saves. TAMIU posted its third clean sheet of the season. Nicklas Berg-Eriksen started the first six games and made 33 saves for a save percentage of .767, and his goals-against average is 1.67.
 
Junior forward Jaime Martinez leads the Dustdevils with three goals, and Michael Ochoche is the team leader with two assists. Five TAMIU players each have one assist this season. Aidan Williams has scored twice, and four other Dustdevils have found the back of the net this season.
 
Opponents have outscored TAMIU this season, 10-9, and the Dustdevils have been outshot, 90-62. Opponents are putting 51 percent of their shots (46 of 90) on goal. TAMIU puts 50 percent of its shots (31 of 62) on goal.
 
Midwestern State is on the road for its match with UT Tyler on Wednesday night. Kickoff at Citizens 1^st Bank-Perkins Soccer Complex is scheduled for 5 p.m.
