WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State looks to continue its impressive form as it hosts Eastern New Mexico in a Lone Star Conference match on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. The Mustangs have opened the season with five consecutive wins for the first time in program history and have not conceded a goal this season.

The last time Midwestern State started the season unbeaten in its first five matches was 2009, when the Mustangs started the season with a 9-0-1 record. The 2009 team had a six-game streak without allowing a goal but played a 0-0 draw with Incarnate Word after winning three-straight with a clean sheet. Midwestern State set the school record for shutouts in a season with 11 during that 2009 campaign and finished the season with a 13-5-2 record.

Midwestern State, which is off to its best start in nine seasons under head coach Ryan Spence, is outscoring its opponents 13-0 and has the sixth best goal differential among NCAA Division II programs. Ten different players have scored goals for MSU with Lexi Gonzales, McKynzi Hailey and Bella Pillow each scoring twice.

Midwestern State is the 16th highest scoring team NCAA Division II women's soccer and third in the conference. The Mustangs are ninth in the nation with 12 total assists and 20th in the country with 2.4 assists per game.

Gonzales leads the team with four assists and eight points this season. Ella Adams and Morgan Countryman each have two assists. Adams, Izzy Amphlett, Madison Brinkley, Sloane Sullivan, Allie Cifuentes, Sophie Ferro and Binky Mendez have all scored a goal for the Mustangs this season.

Three players besides Gonzales and Adams each have at least one goal and one assist: Amphlett, Brinkley and Sullivan. Fourteen Mustangs have at least one point this season. Marlene Myrvold, Bella Rose and Leeci Snyder all have one assist.

Lauren Short has been the Stangs' keeper for all 450 minutes this season and has made nine saves in five matches. Seven of those saves came in back-to-back games at Stang Park earlier this season. The sophomore from Frisco, Texas, stopped three shots in a 2-0 win over Colorado Mesa and followed that up with a four-save performance against Central Oklahoma in a 1-0 victory.

Short made her only save in the 52nd minute during the Mustangs 3-0 win at UT Permian Basin to open the conference campaign on Wednesday night. MSU outshot UTPB, 20-2, and the Mustangs put 11 their shots on frame. Midwestern State took 10 corner kicks, while the Falcons did not get a single opportunity from the corner arc. Gonzalez, Hailey and Ferro scored the goals. Valeria Delgado made eight saves in the loss for UTPB.

Midwestern State has a 23-game home unbeaten streak and has not allowed an opponent more than five shots on goal in its last 24 matches.

The Mustangs will celebrate "Senior Day" at Stang Park on Saturday, and seven seniors will be recognized before kickoff: Gonzales, Snyder, Myrvold, Ashlyn Novotny, Taryn Sueltz, Tanner Sorenson and Kaylee Richardson.

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with the Greyhounds, 20-9-3, winning the last five meetings by an aggregate score of 22-1. The Mustangs won in Portales, New Mexico, last season, 5-0, as Snyder assisted on two goals. Rose, Brinkley and Jimena Rodriguez all scored in the victory last season. It was the Mustangs' fourth clean sheet in their last five meetings with the Greyhounds, who lost their last visit to Stang Park, 5-0.

The Greyhounds are making their 16th all-time visit to Midwestern State and have five wins in Wichita Falls, most recently a 2-1 triumph in 2018. ENMU has been shut out in its last two visits as the Mustangs prevailed 3-0 in 2021.

The Lone Star Conference announced that Eastern New Mexico's match with UT Tyler scheduled for September 9 has been declared a forfeiture per LSC policy. UT Tyler is credited with a forfeit win over ENMU in the LSC standings only.

The Greyhounds (1-2-1) are playing their conference opener at Stang Park, coming off back-to-back losses at Colorado State-Pueblo and Adams State. ENMU was shut out in both games, falling to the Thunderwolves in Pueblo, 3-0, before the Grizzlies posted a 4-0 victory in Alamosa, Colorado. ENMU is 0-2-0 on the road this season.

Arissa C'DeBaca and Addison Garver have each scored a goal for the Greyhounds, who opened the season playing a 0-0 draw with New Mexico Highlands before defeating Western Colorado, 2-1, at home in Portales. Aubrey Bolanoes and Raylene Carillo each have an assist for the Greyhounds, who have been outscored in four matches, 8-2.

Aja Gonzales has been the ENMU goalkeeper for all 360 minutes played this season and has conceded eight goals with 19 saves. The junior from Clovis, New Mexico, has a 2.00 goals-allowed average with a save percentage of .704. Gonzales made eight saves in the win over Western Colorado. She made a season-high eight saves in the win over the Mountaineers and is coming off a six-save performance at Adams State on Sept. 5. 

Midwestern State is back at Stang Park on Wednesday night, hosting Texas A&M International in a game that kicks off at 7 p.m.
