LAWTON, Okla. — No. 34 Midwestern State defeated Cameron 5-2 on Friday at the Streich-Henry Tennis Complex. The Maroon & Gold secured the victory by winning five of six singles matches.
Cameron secured the doubles point with victories at No. 3 and No. 1 doubles. Alexa Garcia and Daniela Maldonado took a 6-1 win over
Hattie Berend and
Alessia Dolce at No. 3 doubles, while Jenna Goessel and Nil Kalkaven, ranked No. 32, defeated
Jasmine Crain and
Camila Garcia, 7-5, at No. 1 doubles. MSU captured a win at No. 2 doubles with the No. 8 ranked pair of
Emilia Gyorgy and
Selin Sepken overcoming Adel Ismagulova and Isabella Quintero, 6-4.
In singles play, the Mustangs turned the tide with decisive performances.
Emilia Gyorgy, ranked No. 74, initiated the comeback at No. 2 singles with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 win over Adel Ismagulova.
Alessia Dolce followed suit at No. 4 singles, dismantling Isabella Quintero 6-3, 6-1.
Selin Sepken, ranked No. 9, further extended the lead at No. 1 singles by dispatching No. 72 Jenna Goessel, 6-3, 6-2, bringing the running dual score to 3-1 in favor of the Mustangs.
Camila Garcia sealed the victory for the Mustangs at No. 3 singles, delivering a 6-4, 6-3 win against Alexa Garcia, clinching the dual match. Although Cameron's Daniela Maldonado earned a point at No. 6 singles, defeating
Hattie Berend 6-0, 6-3, MSU's
Jasmine Crain closed out the singles competition with a 7-6(4), 6-3 triumph over Nil Kalkaven at No. 5 singles. The final dual score stood at 5-2 in favor of MSU.
