WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State is No. 26 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Wednesday, dropping two spots despite winning two of three matches against Gulf South Conference opponents in Tyler, Texas, this past weekend.
Midwestern State is 4-3, including a 6-1 loss to No. 2-ranked West Florida on Sunday afternoon. The Mustangs defeated No. 31 West Alabama 5-2 during its jaunt to Tyler. MSU also posted a 4-3 win over Auburn Montgomery.
The Mustangs have a 4-1 victory over No. 38 Rockhurst. The Mustangs also faced No. 8 Washburn earlier this season and fell to the Ichabods, 4-0.
Germano Setti remains the No. 7 ranked singles player in NCAA Division II. Settti is 12-3 in all matches going back to the fall campaign. The senior from Brazil had an eight-match winning streak snapped on Sunday with a 7-6 (7), 3-6, 3-6 loss to No. 5-ranked Sebastian Rondon of West Florida.
Juan David Duque and
Bruno Sanchez are ranked No. 23 in doubles, and the duo is 3-4 at No. 1 doubles for the Mustangs during the dual-match season. The pairing won its first five matches in the fall and is 11-7 in all matches played since Oct. 2.
No. 3-ranked Sebastian Rondon and Diego Duraz of West Florida scored a 6-3 victory against Duque/Sanchez in West Florida's win over the Stangs on Sunday.
Midwestern State makes a trip to Durant, Oklahoma, on Friday to face Southeastern Oklahoma State. First serve is scheduled for noon at Southeastern Tennis Complex.
