Midwestern State women are No. 22 in ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings

WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State is No. 22 in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Wednesday.

Midwestern State entered Wednesday's dual match against Hawaii Hilo with a three-match winning streak and a record of 7-4.

The Mustangs have lost to No. 10-ranked Washburn, No. 4-ranked West Alabama and No. 2-ranked West Florida. The most recent defeat came at the hands of Northeastern State, which is ranked No. 40 after upsetting MSU, 4-3, on March 12.

Midwestern State is led by Selin Sepken, who is ranked No. 4 among NCAA Division II singles players with a 17-2 record, which includes all matches going back to the fall campaign. Sepken is 7-1 at No. 1 singles for the Mustangs this spring and was unable to play singles against Northeastern State due to illness. Her only loss in a dual match came against No. 6-ranked Carlota Verdu of West Florida, who prevailed 2-6, 6-3, 7-5 when the two clashed in Tyler, Texas, on March 1.

Sepken and Emilia Gyorgy are No. 5 in Division II ITA Collegiate Doubles Rankings. The duo is 8-3 at No. 1 doubles for the Mustangs and has won all three matches against nationally ranked opponents, including a 6-2 triumph over Brooke Coffman and Karli Roux of Harding, who are ranked No. 7.

Sepken and Gyorgy also posted a 6-1 victory over Sandra Recuenco Tarin and Carlota Verdu of West Florida, who are No. 18 in the latest rankings. Early in the campaign, the pairing topped No. 12-ranked Daniela Tijaro and Renske Ubachs of Washburn, 6-4.

Gyorgy was 7-1 playing alongside Camila Garcia in the fall, and the pairing is ranked No. 9 in the latest ITA Rankings.

Midwestern State begins Lone Star Conference play on March 27 with a trip to South Texas for a dual match against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
