WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State moved up seven spots and is No. 20 in the latest ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Wednesday.
Midwestern State entered Wednesday's dual match against Hawaii Hilo with a three-match winning streak and a record of 7-3.
The Mustangs lost to No. 1-ranked West Florida during the he Lone Star Conference/Gulf South Conference crossover event in Tyler, Texas, and the Mustangs also fell to No. 5-ranked Washburn in Topeka, Kansas, on Feb. 22.
No. 34-ranked Nebraska Kearney edged the Mustangs in a dual match at Kearney, Nebraska, 4-3, on Feb. 20.
Germano Setti is the No. 10 ranked singles player in NCAA Division II. Setti is 13-4 in all matches going back to the fall campaign. The senior from Brazil is 6-2 in dual matches for the Mustangs this spring and posted a 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 win over Adrian Solorzano of Harding before losing a match tiebreak to Ignacio Paolini of McKendree, 4-6, 6-3, 6-10.
Setti's only other loss this season came against No. 4-ranked Sebastian Rondon of West Florida, who needed three sets to get past Setti, 6-7 (7), 6-3, 6-3.
Juan David Duque and
Bruno Sanchez are 3-4 in dual-match play for the Mustangs this spring, but the duo is No. 21 in the latest ITA Collegiate Doubles Rankings with an 11-7 record in all matches, including those played in the fall campaign.
In recent duals, Duque has won two of three matches with
Jose Marquez, and Sanchez has won two of three matches with
Cesar Loeches Llamas.
Midwestern State visits Tyler Junior College on March 25 before hosting Lubbock Christian in the Lone Star Conference opener on April 3.
