WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State is No. 27 in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Wednesday, dropping one spot from last week's rating.
Midwestern State is 4-3, including a 6-1 loss to No. 2-ranked West Florida. The Mustangs defeated No. 40 West Alabama 5-2 during its jaunt to Tyler for the Lone Star Conference/Gulf South Conference crossover event. MSU also posted a 4-3 win over Auburn Montgomery.
The Mustangs also faced No. 16 Washburn earlier this season and fell to the Ichabods, 4-0. Midwestern State has a 4-1 victory over Rockhurst, which fell out of the top 50 this week.
Germano Setti is the No. 8 ranked singles player in NCAA Division II. Setti is 12-3 in all matches going back to the fall campaign. The senior from Brazil had an eight-match winning streak snapped with a 7-6 (7), 3-6, 3-6 loss to No. 5-ranked Sebastian Rondon of West Florida.
Juan David Duque and
Bruno Sanchez are ranked No. 19 in doubles, and the duo is 3-4 at No. 1 doubles for the Mustangs during the dual-match season. The pairing won its first five matches in the fall and is 11-7 in all matches played since Oct. 2.
No. 2-ranked Sebastian Rondon and Diego Duraz of West Florida scored a 6-3 victory against Duque/Sanchez in West Florida's win over the Stangs on Sunday.
Midwestern State makes a trip to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Friday to face Northeastern State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at NSU Tennis Complex.
