WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State dropped seven spots in the ITA Collegiate Tennis Rankings released on Wednesday and is No. 12 among NCAA Division II programs.
Midwestern State is 4-3 this season, but the losses have come against No. 1-ranked West Florida, No. 3-ranked West Alabama and No. 7-ranked Washburn.
The Mustangs have wins over No. 39 Northwest Missouri State, No. 46 Nebraska Kearney, No. 31 Rockhurst, and Auburn Montgomery.
Midwestern State is led by Selin Sepken, who is ranked No. 3 among NCAA Division II singles players with a 15-2 record, which includes all matches going back to the fall campaign. Sepken had a nine-match winning streak snapped with a 6-2, 3-6, 5-7 loss to No. 4-ranked Carlota Verdu of West Florida.
Sepken is 5-1 in dual matches against NCAA Division II opponents this semester.
The fifth-year senior from Turkey transferred to Midwestern State from Idaho and is also playing extremely well in doubles.
Sepken and Emilia Gyorgy are 5-2 at No. 1 doubles during the dual match campaign for the Mustangs, and the duo is No. 19 in the ITA Rankings.
Gyorgy was 7-1 playing alongside Camila Garcia in the fall, and the pairing is ranked No. 5 in the latest ITA Rankings.
Midwestern State makes a trip to Tahlequah, Oklahoma, on Friday to face Northeastern State. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m. at NSU Tennis Complex.
