TOPEKA, Kansas – No. 18-ranked Midwestern State ended a grueling three-day road trip with a 4-0 loss at No. 4-ranked Washburn on Sunday afternoon.
Zinovii Nahirniak clinched the win for the Ichabods at Genesis Tennis Center with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over
Jose Marquez at No. 4 singles. Marquez had a personal five-match winning streak snapped with the loss.
Tommaso Cecchetti and Kilian Martinez clinched the doubles point for the Ichabods with a 6-3 win over
Juan David Duque and
Bruno Sanchez at No. 1 doubles.
The dynamic duo of
Matthew Earle and
Germano Setti posted a 6-3 win over Yuto Miyagawa and Yoshinobu Nakatsuji at No. 2 doubles, but the Ichabods posted a 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles with Benjamin Fock and Pavlos Parson defeating
Cesar Loeches Llamas and Marquez.
Miyagawa upended Loeches Llamas at No. 6 singles, 6-2, 6-1.
Kilian Martinez defeated Duque 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles.
Setti, Sanchez and Earle all played unfinished matches against the formidable Ichabods as the Mustangs fell to 2-2 for the season.
Midwestern State meets West Alabama at Summers Tennis Center in Tyler, Texas, on Friday morning at 10 a.m.
