KEARNEY, Neb. – No. 10-ranked Selin Sepken got a measure of revenge for a three-set loss to No. 8-ranked Eleanor Coleman of Rockhurst in the ITA Cup last fall and clinched a dual-match victory for Midwestern State on Saturday afternoon at Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.
Sepken lost to Coleman in the Round of 16 in Rome, Georgia, during the prestigious ITA Cup tournament in October 4-6, 6-2, 2-6.
In the rematch, Sepken prevailed in three sets 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 and extended her personal winning streak to seven matches.
Sepken's victory secured a 4-1 victory over the Hawks, and the No. 8-ranked Mustangs improved to 3-0 to start the season.
Rockhurst was hoping to avenge a 4-2 loss to Midwestern State at the NCAA Division II Women's Tennis Championship last spring.
Sepken and Emilia Gyorgy completed a doubles' sweep for the Mustangs with a 6-1 win over Coleman and Camila Neyra at No. 1 doubles.
Gyorgy then breezed to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sofia Valdespino at No. 2 singles.
Camila Garcia teamed with Jasmine Crain for a 6-3 triumph over Marina Magai and Zuzanna Szmyd at No. 2 doubles, clinching the point for MSU. Garcia then put the Mustangs in position to win the dual with a 6-2, 7-6 (5) victory at No. 3 singles.
Alessia Dolce and Mala Krzanic-Sullivan won No. 3 doubles, 6-2, over Maria Alejandra Baez Chacon and Valdespino.
Midwestern State travels to Topeka, Kansas, for a showdown with No. 11 Washburn on Sunday.
