KEARNEY, Neb. – Jose Marquez won a three-set battle at No. 4 singles for No. 18-ranked Midwestern State and clinched a 4-1 dual-match victory over Rockhurst on Saturday afternoon at Ernest Grundy Tennis Center.
Marquez defeated Alexi Khamartou 3-6, 6-2, 6-3 and extended his winning streak to five matches, including wins against Cowley County and Seward County.
Midwestern State is 2-1 in dual matches against NCAA Division II opponents this season.
Germano Setti has a six-match winning streak, dating back to the fall, after beating former teammate Killian Guillou 2-6, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 1 singles on Saturday.
Juan David Duque earned a straight set win at No. 3 singles, 6-2, 6-3, over Oliver Dickason of the Hawks. Duque is 2-1 against NCAA Division II opponents in the dual-match season.
Duque and Bruno Sanchez clinched the doubles point for MSU with a 6-4 win over Guillou and Josef Truhlar.
Setti and Matthew Earle gave the Mustangs an early advantage with a 6-3 triumph at No. 2 doubles over Dickason and Khamartou.
Midwestern State meets No. 4-ranked Washburn in Topeka at noon on Sunday.
