WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State hosts Collin College for a dual match at MSU Tennis Center on Friday afternoon. First serve is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Mustangs are coming off a 5-2 win over Seward County Community College on Wednesday afternoon.
Cesar Loeches Llamas, a freshman from Madrid, Spain, clinched the dual-match victory with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Juan Luzuriaga at No. 5 singles. Llamas and
Matthew Earle completed a sweep in doubles with a 7-6 (4) win over Eytan Miessen and Meryl Genevrier.
Jose Marquez broke a 2-2 tie in the dual with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 win over Theo Cabre at No. 3 singles in the only three-set match of the day. Marquez paired with
Tomas Leguizamon to clinch the doubles point, posting a 7-5 triumph over Luzuriaga and Lucas Barriga at No. 3 doubles.
Bruno Sanchez and
Rowan Olsen also won singles matches in straight sets for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State is 12-4 all-time against Collin College, including a 5-2 victory in their last encounter on in February of 2023. MSU has won the last 11 duals in the series.
Collin College lost to Our Lady of the Lake in a dual match at San Antonio on Tuesday, 6-1. The Cougars only point came at No. 5 singles, winning a match tiebreak after splitting the first two sets.
St. Mary's swept Collin College, but Phillippe Dau and Niko Nadali managed a 6-2 victory at No. 1 doubles. Boitshepo Maake pushed Ben Aaron Anton into three sets at No. 3 singles. Deniz Zeki lost a three-set decision to Lincoln Baldonado at No. 6 singles. Ander Huelamo won the first set over Nikita Gavrilonoks but lost a match tiebreak in the third set.
Midwestern State travels to Nebraska-Kearney for a dual match on Feb. 20 and will meet Rockhurst in Kearney, Nebraska, the following day. The next dual match at home is scheduled for March 13 against Harding.
