TYLER, Texas – Midwestern State had three of the four semifinalists in singles at the 2026 ITA South Central Regional Championship, and No. 10-seed Victoria Vieten will play in the final. Vieten and Camila Garcia, the seventh-seeded duo, lost a close semifinal match in doubles on Saturday.
Vieten scored an impressive 6-4, 6-0 victory over top-seeded Yona Bancarel of UT Tyler in the quarterfinals, but her reward was facing her doubles partner in the semifinals. Seventh-seeded Camila Garcia was nearly as impressive in her quarterfinal victory, dispatching No. 3-seed Margaux Rene of Angelo State, 6-2, 6-4.
Meanwhile, No. 4-seed Emilia Gyorgy won a fourth consecutive match in straight sets, moving past 12th-seeded Kritel Jativa of Lubbock Christian, 7-5, 6-1. Gyorgy faced sixth-seeded Andrea De Bernardo of Lubbock Christian in the semifinals. A Gyorgy victory would have guaranteed an all-MSU final on Sunday, but De Bernardo won the match, 6-4, 6-3, and meets Vieten in the final.
By virtue of reaching the final in the regional championship, Vieten has earned an automatic berth in the ITA Division II Singles Championship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, next month.
Vieten and Garcia were on the same side of the net for the doubles semifinal match against the fifth-seeded pairing of Maria Antonio Ortega and Yona Bancarel of UT Tyler. The Patriot duo came back to win the match in a match tiebreak, 2-6, 6-4, (10-8), and will face the No. 8-seed Madalyn Smelley and Selina Wu of St. Mary's in the final on Sunday.
