No. 2 Men's Soccer completes second-half comeback win over UT Dallas, 2-1

RICHARDSON, Texas — Nationally-ranked No. 2 Midwestern State Men's Soccer defeated UT Dallas, 2-1, on Saturday evening at UT Dallas Soccer Complex. The Mustangs trailed 1-0 at halftime before scoring twice in the second half and finishing with a 19-7 shot advantage.

MSU created several early attacking sequences before the match opened up after halftime, including two first-half stretches with three shots and a corner kick while the score was still even. After UTD led 1-0, Parker Plaxco brought the Maroon & Gold level in the second half, heading in a goal with Juan David Valencia Vacca and Oscar Nunez credited with assists. Plaxco struck again minutes later, knocking in a rebound with Liam Kervick assisting as the Mustangs took a 2-1 lead.

The match tightened from there, with one second-half stretch featuring four fouls and four cards over seven minutes and another late stretch including four fouls and two cards. MSU also continued to generate chances after moving in front, recording three shots and a corner kick during a later attacking sequence. For the match, the Mustangs finished with a 19-7 advantage in shots and put 11 attempts on goal to UTD's two, while the Comets made nine saves. Plaxco finished with both MSU goals on four shots, three of them on frame.

Plaxco scored twice, finished with four points and put three of his four shots on goal, including the game-winning goal. Kervick recorded an assist and added three shots, two on goal. Rivera matched the team high with four shots and put two on frame. Jake Morris played all 90 minutes in goal and made one save in net.

The Mustangs continued their unbeaten run dating back to last season, extending the streak to 25 straight matches without a defeat. The last team to beat the Mustangs was the Comets, back on Oct. 18, as UT Dallas picked up a 2-0 road victory at Stang Park. MSU ended the UTD home unbeaten streak, with the Comets losing for the first time at their home ground since 2023 (Hardin-Simmons, 2-1, 10/26/23), ending a 22-match home unbeaten run. The Mustangs earned their first victory against the Comets since 1996, ending a 19-year gap when the two times met last season.

Up next, the Mustangs travel to Canyon, Texas, to face West Texas A&M on Saturday, Oct. 17, at 7 p.m.
