Women's Tennis Ranked No. 8 in Preseason ITA Poll

The Mustangs begin the season on Jan. 31 against Seward Community College

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State Women's Tennis rank inside the top-10 of first Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Collegiate rankings, announced the organization on Wednesday morning. The Mustangs sit 8th in the opening poll of the season, with 2025 national champions Barry University sitting in the top spot.

Midwestern State begin their season in just 17 days, when they will welcome Seward County Community College on Jan. 31 at MSU Tennis Courts. MSU had a successful fall, with Selin Sepken winning the ITA South Central Region Singles Championship, while the tandem of Emilia Gyorgy and Camila Garcia won the doubles title.

The opening ITA poll features several of the Mustangs opponents and conference foes for the 2026 season. In non-conference play, MSU will meet up with No. 5 West Alabama, No. 6, West Florida, No. 13 Washburn, and No. 21 Auburn Montgomery, playing each one of those teams in February. For conference opponents, the Lone Star Conference features four programs, with No. 12 St. Mary's, No. 18 UT Tyler, and No. 25 Lubbock Christian joining the Mustangs.

Along with the team rankings, several Mustangs featured in the ITA singles and doubles rankings, posted back in November. Sepken ranked 10th in the nation for singles, joined by Gyorgy at No. 42. The duo of Gyorgy and Garcia stand as the No. 10 doubles pairing in the nation.

Sepken, a native of Istanbul, Turkey, leads the South Central region with a No. 1 ranking, while Gyorgy (No. 5) and Garcia (No. 6) make up a strong representation in the regional singles rankings. The Mustangs are just was strong in doubles, with three pairs of Mustangs in the top eight of doubles regional rankings: Gyorgy and Garcia (No. 1), Sepken and Hattie Berend (No. 6), and Jasmine Crain and Alessia Dolce (No. 8).

Midwestern State begins the season on home court against Seward County Community College (Jan. 31), while facing its first Division ll opponent on Feb. 8 against Northwest Missouri State.
