DENTON, Texas -- Midwestern State returns to the road after winning its first two home games of the season and faces Texas Woman's on Saturday night at Pioneer Soccer Field.
Midwestern State (2-1-3, 2-0-1) is coming off a dominating 2-0 victory over Lubbock Christian at Stang Park. MSU had eight shots on goal and did not allow the Lady Chaps a single shot on goal.The Mustangs outshot LCU overall, 24-8.
Bella Rose scored her first collegiate goal and gave the Mustangs an early lead with a strike in the 52nd minute, and
Lillia Besedin secured the victory when she scored from the penalty arc in the 84th minute.
The second goal for the Mustangs came off a corner kick. Midwestern State had eight chances from the corner, while LCU did not get a single corner kick during the match.
Besedin became the third player to score her second goal of the season for the Mustangs, joining
Nyxalee Munoz and
Marlene Myrvold. Five other players have scored one goal this season, and seven Mustangs have combined for eight assists.
Morgan Countryman has two assists in her freshman campaign.
Tanner Sorenson has been the goalkeeper for the last four matches.The sophomore from Midolothian, Texas, is 2-0-2 with a 1.00 goals-against average and a save percentage of .556.
Midwestern State leads the all-time series with TWU 18-9-6 and is unbeaten in the last five meetings. Munoz and
Cassidy Savoy scored second-half goals in Denton last season as the Mustangs rallied for a 2-2 draw against the Pioneers.
Texas Woman's (7-0-0, 3-0-0) is atop the Lone Star Conference table and is coming off a 3-0 victory at St. Mary's on Wednesday night. TWU is outscoring opponents 24-2 through seven matches.
Goalkeeper Amanda Farris is 7-0-0 with five shutouts, including two combined shutouts with Faith Graves. The goalkeepers have a combined save percentage of .867.
The Pioneers have the second-most goals among NCAA Division II programs, led by junior forward Giselle Gutierrez. The product of Plano East has four goals and four assists for TWU, which leads the nation with 71 points.
Ailyn Oliveros also has four goals, and Jaida Arizmendi has four assists for the prolific Pioneers.
Midwestern State has another away match on Wednesday when it visits Oklahoma Christian in Edmond at Eagles Soccer Field. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m.
