WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State senior
Jaime Villagomez was named the LSC Defensive Player of the Week after scoring goals against St. Mary's and Southern Nazarene last week.
Villagomez gave the Mustangs an early lead over No. 17-ranked St. Mary's in a non-conference match at Stang Park on Wednesday night. He scored his first collegiate goal in the 8th minute, assisted by
Skyler Krchnak, and the Mustangs held on for a 1-0 victory over the Rattlers.
The senior scored his second goal of the season against Southern Nazarene on Saturday night at Wanda Rhodes Soccer Complex in Bethany, Oklahoma. Villagomez was assisted by
Ethan Krchnak and gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead in the 52
nd minute, but MSU conceded two goals in the final 12 minutes and settled for a 2-2 draw with the Crimson Storm.
The El Pasoan has taken a total of four shots for the Mustangs this season, and Villagomez scored both times he put a shot on goal.
Villagomez is in his second season at Midwestern State after transferring from Tyler Junior College. He has started three matches for the 2-1-3 Mustangs this season after making seven starts and recording four assists in 17 appearances last year.
Midwestern State is playing two matches at Toyota Soccer Center in Frisco, Texas, this week. MSU meets Northwest Nazarene on Thursday at 5 p.m. and faces Western Oregon on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
