Head coach Rich Renner breaks down the Mustangs as they pursue a Lone Star Conference championship.

Rich Renner begins his second season as the head coach at Midwestern State, and the Mustangs are kicking off the new campaign by visiting Missouri Southern, which MSU defeated at Memorial Stadium in last year's season opener, 18-11. This year, Renner is directing practically a brand-new cast in hopes of returning MSU to its winning ways. There are 96 new players on the roster for the Mustangs, who finished last season with a 4-7 record overall and a 3-6 mark in the Lone Star Conference. Among the new players is quarterback Jakolby Longino, a senior transfer from Lamar, who will be the Week 1 starter for Midwestern State. Kirk Bryant is the new offensive coordinator, and Blake Frazier is back for his second season as the defensive coordinator. The season begins at 6 p.m. on Saturday night as the Mustangs meet Missouri Southern at Fred Hughes Stadium in Joplin, Missouri.
