ARLINGTON, Texas -- No. 24-ranked Midwestern State stormed into the Lone Star Conference semifinals with a 4-0 win over Cameron Thursday morning at the Arlington Tennis Center.
The Mustangs (14-5) moved on to face No. 7-ranked UT Tyler (21-1) Friday morning. First serve is set for 9 a.m. The winner advances to Saturday's final.
Midwestern State wasted little time taking an advantage of the Aggies.
Juan David Duque and
Killian Guillou rolled to 6-4 win over Cameron's Lukas Janousek and Lachlan Setina at No. 3 just moments before
Stephen Slocombe and
Filip Vacula clinched the doubles' point with a 6-4 win over Kristian Kubik and Noe Milliard at No. 1.
Slocombe and Vacula, who came in ranked 12th in this week's ITA Division II doubles rankings, won their fifth straight match and is victorious in nine of their last 10.
Duque continued the momentum with a 6-2, 6-0 win over CU's Raphael Valente at No. 6, while Slocombe and Guillou raced to finish off the Aggies.
Slocombe managed to get off of the court first with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Vicente Preto at No. 3, and was quickly followed by Guillou, who clinched the match with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Janousek at No. 3.
The clinching win was Guillou's seventh consecutive victory, improving to 8-1 during the dual season.
The Mustangs earned an opportunity to avenge a 5-2 loss to UT Tyler in match played two weeks ago in Wichita Falls.
Cameron closed the season with an 8-10 record.
