OWASSO, Oklahoma -- Midwestern State's Brecklyn Flanagan believed she needed a big finish in the final round of the Rogers State Hillcat Classic Tuesday afternoon at the Bailey Ranch Golf Club.

And she polished off the round with a birdie on her final hole - the par-5, 490-yard first hole, after carding nine consecutive birdies on the Back Nine.

As it turned out, Rogers State senior Lydia Sitorus took a bogey on her final hole on the 18th green.

So, Flanagan claimed her first collegiate individual win by firing scores of 72 and 71 for a 1-over total of 143, beating Sitorus, the first round leader, by two strokes.

"Brecklyn was solid from tee-to-green today," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "We were really solid as a team this week while playing short-handed.

The result Flanagan's fourth career Top 10 individual finish and best since taking fourth at the Oklahoma Intercollegiate during her freshman season.

The Mustangs were strong despite missing junior Alli Reily due to illness.

"We really missed Alli not only because she is our No. 1 golfer, but in just not being here as part of the team," Ray said.

Four MSU golfers enjoyed their best individual finish of the season as Flanagan was joined by senior Makenna Henry, who tied for fifth with a 6-over 148 after carding successive 74s.

Junior Kodi Nolen (76-74) and sophomore Madison Wert (76-74) tied for eighth with an 8-over total of 150.

Freshman Mary Kerr logged tallies of 76 and 78 to finish 14th with a 12-over total of 154.

The Mustangs (298-293 591/+23), who went with five golfers in the play six and count four tournament, finished two strokes behind first-place finishing Rogers State, who logged team totals of 297 and 292 for a 21-over 589.

Midwestern State next competes in the Hardscrabble Invitational on March 24-25 at the Hardscrabble Country Club in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
