TYLER, Texas -- No. 4-ranked Midwestern State continued to show strong form with a convincing 4-1 victory over No. 9-ranked Auburn-Montgomery at the UT Tyler Invitational on Friday afternoon.
Midwestern State swept through four singles matches after dropping the doubles point and improved its season record to 7-1 with four wins over teams ranked in the ITA top-10.
Anda Ghinga improved to 6-1 at No. 4 singles as she coasted to a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ksenija-Ana Vujacic.
No. 8-ranked
Sofia Giraldo bounced Nahia Izco at No. 3 singles, 6-3, 6-3, and the Mustangs took a lead in the dual match they would never relinquish.
Hannah Yip finished strong to defeat Melissa Yakup Pour at No. 2 singles, 2-6, 6-3, 6-0, as the Mustangs took a 3-1 lead in the dual match.
No. 6-ranked
Jessica Binzari was pushed to three sets but prevailed over Estefania Garcia, 4-6, 6-4, 7-5, and the hard-fought triumph gave the Mustangs another impressive victory over a talented team.
The next test for Midwestern State is a dual match with No. 25-ranked West Florida on Saturday morning. The Mustangs will close out their stay in Tyler with a dual against No. 12-ranked West Alabama on Sunday.
