Mustangs sweep past No. 6 North Georgia to advance ITA Indoor finals

INDIANAPOLIS -- Midwestern State swept past No. 6-ranked North Georgia Saturday at the UIndy Tennis Center to to claim a berth in the final of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Indoor Championships.

The Mustangs take on the winner of No. 1 Barry (Fla.) and No. 3 Embry Riddle (Fla.) Sunday morning at 10 a.m. (Central).

Freshman Camila Garcia delivered the clincher, rolling to her third-straight win at No. 5 singles with a 6-3, 6-2 win over North Georgia's Carolina Reis.

That came on the heels of two other straight-set wins for the Mustangs.

Senior Hannah Yip was first off of the courts with a 6-1, 6-1 victory over Ashley Moinard at No. 2, while senior Anda Ghinga improved to 5-0 during the dual season with a 7-5, 6-0 win over Linn Goerdes at the No. 4 position.

Midwestern State also claimed a pair of 6-2 wins to claim the doubles point with Jessica Binzari and Ghinga beating Vasilissa Kupriyanova and Moinard at No. 2, while Sarah Mazaraki and Sydney Williams defeated Emily Bush and Reis at No. 3.

The Mustangs claimed a set win in each of the other singles positions before the matches were abandoned.

Midwestern State improved to 6-0 for the first time since the 2014 squad won its first eight matches, while North Georgia suffered its first defeat of the season, falling to 6-1.
