WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State's
Jaime Villagomez earned All-America honors from the Division II Conference Commissioner's Association (D2CCA), announced the organization on Tuesday afternoon. Villagomez earns the All-America accolades for the first time in his career, marking the fifth straight season that an MSU Men's Soccer student-athlete has been All-American.
The senior defender has been a key figure in the Mustangs backline this season, playing in every game and starting 20 matches. The fullback has recorded 1,669 minutes played this season, third most among MSU student-athletes, playing the entire match in seven times, including all three of the Mustangs NCAA Tournament matches. The El Paso, Texas native has helped the backline keep 13 shutouts this season.
Villagomez, who is an All-LSC 1
st Team selection and D2CCA 1
st Team All-Region selection, has contributed a pair of goals and five assists this season, scoring the game winning goal against St. Mary's (9/17) in a 1-0 victory. Recently, Villagomez assisted the second goal in the Mustangs 3-2 road victory over Point Loma, securing the Super Region Four title.
No. 3-seeded Midwestern State makes its first appearance in the NCAA Division II Men's Soccer Championship Final Four since 2010, taking on second seed Southern New Hampshire University. Kickoff at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs, Colo. is set for Friday, Dec. 12 at 7 p.m. CST.
The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies, and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
