Mustangs visit first-place Lubbock Christian in regular season finale

LUBBOCK, Texas -- Midwestern State closes out the regular season with a road trip to face conference-leading Lubbock Christian at Rip Griffin Center on Wednesday night at 6 p.m.

Midwestern State (16-9, 9-7) swept UT Permian Basin in its final home match of the campaign as Alayna Guerrero led the Mustangs with 32 assists and 21 digs. Trinity Vinzant had 13 kills on 26 swings without an error. Arrianna Fields had nine kills and was in on three of the seven blocks in the victory at D.L. Ligon Coliseum.

Guerrero has 1,011 assists this season and is leading the conference with 10.5 assists per set.

The Mustangs, who hit .321 against the Falcons on Saturday night, are fifth in the conference with an attack percentage of .226. Bella Dickens is hitting .288 with 271 kills in 97 sets for MSU. Vinzant leads the team with 318 kills and is hitting .211 for the Stangs. 

Jaiden Wright leads Midwestern State with 76 blocks, and the junior from Alvarado, Texas, is hitting .285 with 195 kills in 90 sets this season.

Midwestern State is second in the LSC and ninth among NCAA Division II programs with 19.1 digs per set. Demi Stauffenberg and Guerrero are both averaging more than three digs per set, while Jenna Redding and Vinzant are both averaging nearly three digs per set.

Lubbock Christian (22-6, 14-2) leads the all-time series with Midwestern State, 21-15, and has won the last five meetings, including a four-set triumph at D.L. Ligon Coliseum last year. Midwestern State was swept in their last visit to Rip Griffin Center in 2022. The Mustangs have only won four of 15 visits to Lubbock Christian.

The Lady Chaps are coming off a 3-0 loss to Angelo State and fell to 10-3 at home this season.

Lubbock Christian leads the conference with 13.9 kills per set and is hitting .217 for the season, which is the sixth-best mark in the league.

Camdyn Sears trails only Guerrero in the LSC with 10.3 assists per set. Emily Sikora and Lily Bickley lead the Lady Chaps in kills per set. Sikora is ninth in the conference with 3.2 kills per set and Bickley is 15th in the LSC with three kills per set.

Bryleigh Schweer and Bickley are both among the top-20 blockers in the LSC. Schweer is seventh in the league with nearly a block per set and Bickley is averaging 0.8 blocks per set, which is 17th most in the conference.

Abby Dominguez leads the team and is third in the LSC with 4.8 digs per set. The Lady Chaps are third in the conference with 19 digs per set.

Midwestern State waits for the results of matches played this coming weekend to learn its fate as it seeks a berth in the 2025 LSC Volleyball Championship.
