WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State returns to the friendly confines of D.L. Ligon Coliseum for a three -match homestand. Oklahoma Christian visits the Mustangs for a 6 p.m. match on Friday, and Cameron journeys south of the Red River to visit MSU on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The homestand concludes on Tuesday with a non-conference match against Southwestern Oklahoma State.
The Mustangs are 5-0 at home this season, but they haven't hosted a match since Sept. 26 when they swept Western New Mexico. Midwestern State enters this weekend with a 9-4 record overall and is 3-2 in the Lone Star Conference.
Midwestern State is coming off back-to-back losses at St. Mary's and West Texas A&M. The match at St. Mary's was tightly contested, but the Rattlers won in a fifth set, 15-13. Tuesday night, MSU visited "The Box" for a showdown with West Texas A&M, and the Buffaloes quickly won the first two sets, but MSU rallied to take the third set before suffering a 3-1 defeat.
The Mustangs lead the conference and are eighth in the nation among NCAA Division II programs with 18.7 digs per set, and three players are among the top 20 in the conference with more than three digs per set: Sadie Chritiansen is 12th (3.54),
Demi Stauffenberg is 14th (3.31) and
Alayna Guerrero is 19th (3.04).
Guerrero is leading the conference and is 14th in the nation with 10.67 assists per set.
Trinity Vinzant has the second-most attacks in the Lone Star Conference with 10.2 per set, and she is eighth in the LSC with 3.2 kills per set.
As a team, the Mustangs are third in the league with 13.5 kills per set and are the fifth best hitting team in the LSC with an attack percentage of .226.
Jaiden Wright is eighth in the league with a hitting percentage of .308, and
Isabella Dickens is 11th in the conference with a .272 hitting percentage.
Wright is also 14th in the LSC with 0.76 blocks per set, while Dickens is averaging 0.63 blocks per set, which is 25th-most in the conference.
Midwestern State has served 85 aces this season and is fifth in the LSC with 1.73 aces per set. Vinzant leads the team and is seventh in the conference with 0.45 aces per set.
OKLAHOMA CHRISTIAN (10-4, 2-2)
Midwestern State and Oklahoma Christian are meeting for the ninth time. The all-time series is tied, 4-4, and the Eagles have won three of the last four meetings, including a 3-0 victory at Payne Athletic Center last season.
Oklahoma Christian has not visited the Mustangs since 2022, when Midwestern State defeated the Eagles, 3-1. MSU is 2-2 all-time when hosting Oklahoma Christian.
The Eagles have already been to D.L. Ligon Coliseum this season. OC was 3-0 in the Midwestern State Invitational, winning all three matches in straight sets. The Eagles defeated Southeastern Oklahoma State, Newman and William Jewell College.
Oklahoma Christian started the season with a five-match winning streak, and the Eagles have alternated wins and losses over their last seven matches, defeating Southeastern Oklahoma State on Tuesday night in Durant, 3-1, as Chloe Jones (25 digs, 11 kills), Sophie Mae Smith (26 assists, 10 digs) and Summer van Meerveld (22 assists, 10 digs) each posted double-doubles. Camryn McGough hit .417 and had 11 kills in the non-conference victory.
The Eagles are third in the conference with a .234 hitting percentage, led by McGough, who has the third-best hitting percentage in the LSC at .386.
MCGough and Lauren Cary lead the team with 0.76 blocks per set, and Annie Davis leads the Eagles with 3.40 blocks per set. Jones and Macey Nehring lead the team in digs. Nehring is 10th in the LSC with 3.90 digs per set, and Jones is 13th with 3.44 digs per set.
Asa Freeman is 38-25 in three seasons as the head coach at Oklahoma Christian.
CAMERON (4-12, 0-4)
Cameron plays at Lubbock Christian on Friday night before facing the Mustangs on Saturday. The Aggies have a five-match losing streak and are 0-6 on the road this season.
Cameron leads the all-time series with Midwestern State, 39-31, but is 14-19 when visiting D.L. Ligon Coliseum to play the Mustangs. MSU has won six of the last eight meetings, including a 3-1 victory at Aggie Gym last season, as Dickens finished with 14 kills and hit .400 in the victory.
Melias Avila is in her first season as the head coach at Cameron.
Presleigh Roest is eighth in the LSC with 0.86 blocks per set, and she is sixth in the conference with 49 total blocks.
The Aggies are 16th in the league with a .129 hitting percentage, and their opponents are hitting .225, which is 15th in the LSC.
