Mustangs tee it up in Boulder City for NCAA Division II National Preview

BOULDER CITY, Nevada – Midwestern State is one of 17 schools competing in the NCAA Division II National Preview at Boulder Creek Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.

The Mustangs tied for fifth at the Samuel T. Dunning Invitational in West Point, Mississippi, in their last outing. Midwestern State was 26-over par through 54 holes, led by Seth Bearden.

Bearden finished 2-over and carded 13 birdies over his three rounds.

Midwestern State was 17-under on the par-5s at Mossy Oak Golf Club.

Midwestern State is one of two Lone Star Conference schools in the field this week. Western New Mexico will have five players in the field.

Missouri-St. Louis is hosting the event which will also include: Cal State – San Marcos, Georgia Southwestern State, Lynn, Cal State – Dominguez Hills, Valdosta State, Missouri S&T, Flagler, Cal State – Chico, Drury, Cal State – Stanislaus, Fort Lewis, Colorado State – Pueblo, Cal State – San Bernadino, and Cal State – East Bay are also competing in the tournament, which tees off at 10 a.m. CDT.

Bearden leads the MSU contingent, which includes Ryan Griff, Bryce Hoech, Nathan Nelson, Anniston McIlwain and Hank Germany.

Griff was an individual medalist at the Dunning Invitational and finished 26th at 9-over par. He had three birdies in each of his first two rounds.

Hoech shot 1-over 73 in the final round at the Dunning Invitational and finished in 33rd place at 12-over par.

Nelson and McIlwain finished tied for 28th in Mississippi two weeks ago at 10-over 226. McIlwain shot 1-over 73 in the final round. Nelson was tied with Bearden in 15th place at 2-over par through the first two rounds.

Germany carded an eagle on a par-5 in the first round of the Dunning Invitational and closed with a 3-over 75 to finish 39th at 14-over par.

Boulder Creek Golf Club is a 7600-yard, par-72 desert style links course designed by Mark Rathert, who also designed the Mill Creek Golf Club courses in Salado, Texas.

The weather forecast calls for comfortably warm days in Boulder City on Monday and Tuesday with highs in the low 80s and north winds at 10 miles per hour.
