LAREDO, Texas – Midwestern State hopes to rebound from its gut-wrenching loss to St. Edward's as it travels to Texas A&M International for a Saturday afternoon match with the Dustdevils. Kickoff at Dustdevil Soccer Field is at 1 p.m.
Christian Mezas left the Mustangs despondent after scoring the game-winning goal for St. Edward's with six seconds remaining in their match at Stang Park on Wednesday night as the Hilltoppers prevailed, 2-1.
Midwestern State (4-2-3, 0-1-0) got off to a strong start when
Cooper Tea scored in the 10th minute, but the Mustangs conceded two goals in the second half and were outshot by St. Edward's 15-5 over the final 45 minutes.
Parker Plaxco is the leading goal scorer for MSU with six goals, and he has two assists for a team-leading 14 points.
Tea and
Jaime Villagomez have each scored twice and have an assist for the Mustangs.
Davis Mays and
Liam Pritchard each have a goal and two assists.
Midwestern State has outscored its opponents 15-11 this season and is outshooting the opposition this season, 117-100. The Mustangs are ninth in the nation with seven corner kicks per match and have 35 more corner kicks than their opponents this season.
Goalkeeper
Jake Morris is 2-1-2 in his five starts with a .667 save percentage and a 1.2 goals-against average.
Danny Robles started four matches for the Mustangs and is 2-1-1 with a 1.25 goals-against average and a save percentage of .737.

Emmanuel Esquivel made four saves to preserve the clean sheet for TAMIU. Esquivel has allowed four goals in four appearances and has a goals-against average of 1.28 with a save percentage of .667.
