Mustangs wrap up grueling road trip at Eastern New Mexico

PORTALES, New Mexico – Midwestern State looks to end a three-match losing streak as it closes out a five-game road trip at Eastern New Mexico on Tuesday night. First serve at Greyhound Arena is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.

Midwestern State (13-7, 6-5) is 4-6 on the road following three straight defeats, including a 3-2 loss at Texas A&M International on Saturday.  The Mustangs are mired in their longest losing streak of the season. 

Midwestern State leads the conference and is 10th in the nation with 18.8 digs per set, but Texas A&M International finished with 15 more digs than the Mustangs at TAMIU Kinesiology and Convocation Building in Laredo. 

The Dustdevils, who have hit .140 for the season, finished the match against MSU with an attack percentage of .279. Midwestern State hit .245 in the loss and is sixth in the league with a hitting percentage of .222.

Isabella Dickens leads Midwestern State and is ninth in the conference with a hitting percentage of .298. Jaiden Wright is hitting .270 for the season, which is second amongst the Stangs.

Trinity Vinzant leads the Mustangs and is ninth in the LSC with 3.83 kills per set, while Dickens is 18th in the league with 2.84 kills per set. 

Vinzant is 35th in the nation and second in the league with 10.6 attacks per set, and Midwestern State is third in the league — 26th among Division II schools — with 38.4 attacks per set.

Midwestern State averages a tick more than 13 kills per set, which is seventh-most in the LSC, and Vinzant leads the way with 3.2 kills per set, followed by Dickens with 2.8 kills per set. Vinzant is fourth in the league with 255 total kills, and Dickens is 12th in the LSC with 224 total kills this season.

Alayna Guerrero is second in the conference with 10.3 assists per set and 817 total assists this season. Guerrero is also third on the team with 2.91 digs per set and 32 total blocks.

Dickens leads the team with 50 total blocks, and Wright is second with 49 total blocks. The Mustangs are averaging 1.5 blocks per set.

The Mustangs are sixth in the league with 1.7 aces per set, and Vinzant is second in the conference with 33 aces this season. 

Eastern New Mexico (4-17, 1-9) has a four-match losing streak overall, and the Greyhounds have lost their last nine matches conference matches, including back-to-back 3-0 losses to UT Tyler and UT Dallas to start their three-match homestand. ENMU is 1-5 at Greyhound Arena this season.

Midwestern State won its last three meetings with the Greyhounds, including a 3-1 victory in their conference encounter at Greyhound Arena last season. MSU is 11-11 all-time when visiting Eastern New Mexico, which leads the all-time series 24-22.

Opponents are hitting .202 against the Greyhounds this season, and ENMU is 16th in the league with an attack percentage of .122.

Sophia Valdez is second in the league with 3.6 kills per set, and she is third in the LSC with 4.0 points per set.

Violeta Flores is the assists leader for Eastern New Mexico with 5.2 assists per set, which is 13th-most in the LSC.

Imanhi Brown leads the Greyhounds and is sixth in the conference with 4.5 digs per set, but ENMU is 13th in the league with 15 digs per set.

Amya Speller has 56 total blocks and is 14th in the LSC with 0.8 blocks per set, and the Greyhounds are 10th in the league as a team with 1.7 blocks per set.

Midwestern State begins a four-match homestand on Friday night at D.L. Ligon Coliseum as it hosts Dallas Baptist. First serve is scheduled for 6 p.m.
