Mustangs dominate in 2-0 win over West Texas A&M

WICHITA FALLS, Texas — Midwestern State (9-3-3, 5-2-0) secured a 2-0 victory over West Texas A&M (5-7-1, 2-4-1) on Sunday at Stang Park.

The first half commenced with Midwestern State establishing an early offensive presence highlighted by multiple corner kicks within the first 20 minutes. The pivotal moment came in the 21st minute when Cooper Tea scored, giving Midwestern State a 1-0 lead. Despite several fouls and a yellow card, the home team maintained their advantage, with Jake Morris making a crucial save in the 27th minute to preserve the lead. The half concluded with the Mustangs ahead 1-0, successfully holding off the Buffaloes' attempts to equalize.

MSU began the second half with sustained offensive pressure, securing multiple corner kicks and testing the Buffs' defense early on. Alan Rivera and Jaime Villagomez were active in attack, each managing shots that challenged the visitors' backline.

The momentum shifted decisively when Parker Plaxco capitalized on an assist from Jarrod McKechnie, scoring in the 72nd minute to extend the lead. The Maroon & Gold maintained control and closed the game effectively, keeping the Buffaloes scoreless and securing a 2-0 victory.

Parker scored his team-leading ninth goal of the season, and he has 21 points for the Mustangs.

In their next game, the Mustangs will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to face Lubbock Christian on Wednesday. The match will take place at the LCU Soccer & Track Facility, with the action commencing at 7 p.m.
