WICHITA FALLS, Texas – Midwestern State looks to extend its unbeaten streak to 12 games as it hosts UT Tyler in a pivotal Lone Star Conference matchup on Sunday morning at 11 a.m.
Midwestern State (7-1-5, 7-0-3) is undefeated at home this season and has an eight-game winning streak on home soil, dating back to last season. The Mustangs last home loss was more than two years ago to Dallas Baptist.
Allessandra Romano, Lillia Besedin and Marlene Myrvold scored goals for MSU in a 3-0 win over Angelo State as the Mustangs extended their home unbeaten streak to 17 games.
The Mustangs have only allowed seven shots on goal in their five home matches this season and did not allow a single shot on goal against either Lubbock Christian or West Texas A&M.
Goalkeeper Tanner Sorenson is 5-0-4 with 1.03 goals-against average, while Lauren Short is 2-1-1 with a 1.18 goals-against average.
The Mustangs have shut out three of their last four opponents and have posted five clean sheets this season.
Midwestern State is the third-highest scoring team in the Lone Star Conference with 29 goals, while conceding 14.
Marlene Myrvold scored a goal in each of the last three games and four of the last five. The junior midfielder from Norway leads the team with six goals and 14 points this season.
Nyxalee Munonz and Lillia Besedin each scored five goals. Besedin scored in three of the last four games. Munoz has 11 points this season, and Besedin has 10.
Besedin is the reigning LSC Defensive Player of the week.
Mable Pruter leads the Mustangs with five assists, and she has assisted on a goal in four of the last five games.
UT Tyler (9-2-3, 6-2-3) is coming off a 1-1 draw with St. Mary's as Ella Anderson scored her team-leading sixth goal of the year for the Patriots, who are 4-1-2 in away matches this season.
Emily Clark and Robbi Curry have split time in goal for UT Tyler. Clark is 5-1-2 with a goals-against average of 0.64, and Curry is 4-1-1 with a 0.55 goal-against average.
UT Tyler is outscoring opponents, 23-8, and has shut out eight opponents this season.
Midwestern State has never lost to UT Tyler and leads the all-time series, 6-0-1, but all six victories were decided by one goal, and there has never been more than three goals scored in a matchup between the two programs.
