ROME, Georgia – Germano Setti was defeated in the quarterfinals of the 2025 ITA Cup at Rome Tennis Center on Friday afternoon.
Setti advanced to the quarterfinals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tadeo Gaggiogatto of UIndy on Thursday and faced No. 3-seed Pedro Liborio of North Georgia for a berth in the semifinals.
Liborio advanced with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over the senior from Brazil. Liborio faces No. 2-seed Yan Kodjoed of Barry in the semifinals on Saturday.
Setti will get to play at least one more match at the ITA Cup, and he will face Adrian Solorzano of Harding on Saturday afternoon.
Setti played doubles alongside
Matthew Earle in the consolation bracket on Friday, and the MSU duo lost a 6-3, 6-4 decision to Vicente Garcia and Omar Elsamahy of Charleston (W. Va.).
Bruno Sanchez and
Juan David Duque also played a doubles match on Friday and suffered a narrow defeat in a match tiebreak at the hands of Nagmitsu Kuroda and Don Vinz Lominoque of St. Thomas Aquinas 4-6, 6-4, 7-10.
Sanchez and Duque face Agustin Mastri and Luca Bergonzi of Catawba in their third match. Setti and Earle will also play a third match.
The teammates could meet if they both score victories on Saturday. They would be facing each other in a rematch of the South Central Regional final, which Duque and Sanchez won in a match tiebreak, 6-4, 4-6, 10-7.
