ALPINE, Texas – Midwestern State looks to extend its eight-game unbeaten streak as it visits Sul Ross State on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff at Lobo Soccer Field is scheduled for 1 p.m.
The Mustangs have a three-game winning streak following a 2-0 victory over West Texas A&M at Stang Park on Wednesday evening. MSU outshot the Lady Buffs, 16-5, and did not allow a single shot on goal.
Alinessa Salinas scored her second goal of the year, and
Lillia Besedin secured the victory with her third goal of the campaign.
Mable Pruter registered her an assist from a set piece for the second time in as many games, and she has three assists this season.
Midwestern State is outscoring its opponents this season, 19-12, and is taking nearly eight more shots per game.
Nyxalee Munoz is the leading goal scorer for the Mustangs this season with four, and she leads the team in points with nine in 10 matches.
Besedin and
Marlene Myrvold are second on the team with three goals and six points.
Madison Brinkley and Salinas have both scored twice and assisted on one goal for the Stangs.
Morgan Countryman had an assist in each of the first two games this season for the Mustangs.
Midwestern State is 1-1-4 on the road this season with its first away victory coming at Oklahoma Christian on Oct. 1. Brinkley and Salinas each scored in that game as Midwestern State outshot the Eagles, 11-8, and OC only managed two shots on goal.
The Mustangs and Lobos met for the first time last season at Stang Park, and MSU dominated the match on its way to a 6-0 triumph. Munoz scored twice in the victory, Besedin added a goal for Midwestern State, which outshot Sul Ross State, 32-5. The Lobos put three shots on frame, while MSU forced Celeste De La Rosa to make seven saves for the Lobos.
Sul Ross State (1-9-0, 0-6-0) has a six-game losing streak and has been shut out nine of its 10 games this season. The Lobos have been outscored this season 25-3 and are coming off a 6-0 loss at St. Mary's on Wednesday night.
Junior forward Cali Triggs has scored twice, and freshman forward Kari Villatoro scored the only other goal for Sul Ross State. All of the scoring came in a 3-1 win over Southwest (N.M.) on Sept. 13.
Junior Emmy Finlinson has been the primary goalkeeper for the Lobos. She has a 2.52 goals-against average and a save percentage of .805. Her record is 1-8-0 with 91 saves this season.
The Lobos are 1-6-0 at home this season and lost their last home match, 2-0, to Angelo State.
Midwestern State travels to San Antonio to meet St. Mary's on Wednesday night. Kickoff at Sigma Beta Chi Field is at 7 p.m.
