No. 22 Midwestern State travels to Oklahoma Christian

EDMOND, Okla. – No. 22-ranked Midwestern State has won four of its last five games and looks to remain unbeaten away from Stang Park as it travels north of the Red River to face Oklahoma Christian on Saturday afternoon. Kickoff at Eagle Soccer Field is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Midwestern State (6-2-3, 2-1-0) is coming off a 2-0 win over St. Edward's in front of the home crowd on Wednesday night. Parker Plaxco had a goal and an assist in the victory, while Liam Kervick scored his second goal of the season, and Jaime Villagomez recorded his third assist of the campaign.

The Mustangs are the most prolific goal-scoring team in the Lone Star Conference with 22 goals, which is 33rd most in NCAA Division II this year. MSU leads the league with a plus-10 goal differential.

Plaxco leads Midwestern State with eight goals and three assists this season, and the junior from Stephenville, Texas, is second in the conference in both goals and points with 19. Plaxco has the seventh-most points among NCAA DII players, and he is the 10th-leading goal scorer.

Ethan Nakolo of Oklahoma Christian is leading the nation with 10 goals, and he is second among NCAA DII players with 21 points for the Eagles, who are coming off a 4-2 loss at West Texas A&M.

Nakolo scored both goals in an eight-minute span of the second half as OC rallied to tie the match, 2-2, but the Buffaloes scored twice in the final 15 minutes en route to its first conference win.

Oklahoma Christian (4-4-1, 1-2-0) is 2-1-1 at home this season, with its only loss coming to No. 11-ranked Rogers State on Sept. 13. The Hillcats secured a 1-0 victory at Eagle Soccer Field with a goal in the 17th minute. It's the only time OC has been shut out this season.

The Eagles are outscoring their opponents, 17-13, and are the fourth-highest scoring team in the LSC.

Midwestern State has played two goalkeepers this season — Daniel Robles and Jake Morris

Robles made his sixth start of the season on Wednesday and enters the match with a 4-1-1 record. He has made 19 saves and allowed six goals for a save percentage of .760. He has a 1.02 goals-against average and two clean sheets this season.

Morris has started five games for the Mustangs and has conceded six goals while making 12 saves for a save percentage of .760. Morris is 2-1-2 with a 1.17 goals-against average for Midwestern State.
Nick Hardiman has been the only goalkeeper to play for OC this season, and he has posted two clean sheets and has a goals-against average of 1.44.

Midwestern State leads the all-time series with OC, 24-2-1, and has won the last five meetings, including a 4-1 victory at Stang Park last year.  Both losses in the series have come in Edmond by scores of 2-1. The Eagles last victory was in 2022, and they also upended the Mustangs in 2020.

Gabriel Gacovicaj, who played his first 13 minutes of the season in the win on Wednesday night, scored one of the four goals against the Eagles last year, and Villagomez had two assists in the victory.

Midwestern State, which is 1-0-2 in true road games and 3-0-0 at neutral sites, travels to Dallas Baptist for a match on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
