ODESSA, Texas -- Midwestern State looks to rebound after a disappointing 72-68 loss at Angelo State as it visits UT Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon. Tipoff at UTPB Gym Complex is scheduled for 3 p.m.

Midwestern State was outrebounded by the Rams on Thursday night, 37-26, and only managed two second-chance points as it failed to grab an offensive rebound in the second half at Junell Center.

Mason Gibson scores 16.7 points per game and is the fifth-leading scorer in the Lone Star Conference. Gibson has scored double digits in 13 of 14 games this season after finishing with 15 points on 4-of-9 shooting at Angelo State.

Fifth-year senior Pierre Sanders led the scoring attack at Angelo State with 22 points on 8-of-17 shooting from the field, including a 2-of-5 performance from 3-point range. Sanders is the second-leading scorer for the Mustangs with 11.5 points per game.

Sanders is shooting 46.7 percent from the field (64 of 137) for a team that is shooting 46.2 percent, which is sixth-best in the conference.

Bakari LaStrap scored nine points in the loss at Angelo State but is averaging 11 points per game and is shooting 61 percent from the field (26 of 43).

Will Shepherd is contributing 9.2 points per game and scored in double figures eight times this season.

Jonathan Jackson is pouring in 8.6 points per game for the Mustangs, shooting 40.3 percent (27 of 67) from beyond the arc, which is fourth-best in the LSC. Jackson is making 2.3 3-pointers per game, which is eighth-most in the conference.

Midwestern State is making the second-most 3-point shots per game in the LSC with 9.3 conversions on 24.4 attempts, which is second-most in the conference.

The Mustangs are hitting 38 percent of their 3-point shots, which is the second-best percentage in the conference and 27th in the nation.

Midwestern State has an effective field goal percentage of 53.7 percent, which is fifth best in the LSC. Effective field goal percentage accounts for the added value of three-point shots.

The Mustangs are pulling down 37.7 rebounds per game, which is sixth-most in the LSC, and they are third in the league with 27 defensive boards per contest.

Reggie Hill is the fifth-leading rebounder in the conference with 6.9 rebounds per game, and he has pulled down a season-high 12 rebounds in three games this season.

Midwestern State is scoring 77.4 points per game and allowing the opposition to score 67.5 points per game, which is the fifth-best scoring defense in the conference.

The Mustangs boast the second-best field-goal percentage defense in the LSC and are 11th among NCAA Division II programs, holding opponents to 39.9 percent shooting from the field.

Midwestern State commits the fewest fouls among LSC teams and is 15th in the nation with just 13.5 fouls committed per game.

Midwestern State has lost three of its last four meetings with UT Permian Basin, including two straight losses in Odessa. The Falcons lead the all-time series with the Mustangs, 11-8, including a season sweep last year.

UTPB saw a four-game winning streak halted with an 84-75 loss to Lubbock Christian in overtime on Thursday night as the Chaparrals outscored UTPB, 12-3, in the overtime period.

With the loss, UTPB fell to 12-4 for the season and 8-2 in conference play. The Falcons are 5-2 at home this season and 7-2 when hosting Midwestern State.

UTPB is averaging 76.9 points per game and is allowing opponents to score 72.1 points per game.

Alex Matthews, a 6-5 forward Elizabethtown, Kentucky, is the fourth-leading scorer in the league with 16.9 points per game and is one of five players scoring in double figures for the Falcons.
Matthews is 81 of 98 from the free-throw line and leads the conference in made free throw and attempts. His 82.7 conversion percentage at the foul line is fourth-best in the LSC.

Dario Dominguez (14.4 ppg), Freddie Word (13.3 ppg), Maison Adeleye (12.8 ppg) and D.J. Armstrong (11.3 ppg) help propel the seventh-highest scoring team in the LSC.

Matthews also leads the team and is fourth in the conference with 6.9 rebounds per game. The Falcons are eighth in the league with 34.3 rebounds per contest, but fifth in the LSC with 11.8 offensive boards per game.

Word leads UTPB with 3.1 assists per game and has an assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.2. The Falcons only turn the ball over 12.1 times per contest, which is fifth-best in the conference.

Midwestern State returns home on Thursday to tip off a four-game homestand as it hosts Cameron. The game is scheduled to start at 7:30 p.m.
