WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- UT Permian Basin's JaJuan Mason struck the first blow playing against his former team with a 58-yard touchdown reception, then the Falcons coasted to a 27-3 Lone Star Conference win over Midwestern State Saturday at Memorial Stadium.
Mason finished the game by hauling in four passes for 104 yards as UTPB piled up 441 yards of total offense while improving to 3-2 on the season and 2-1 in conference play.
UT Permian Basin quarterback Dylan Graham competed 24-of-46 passes for 242 yards and two touchdowns, while Kory Harris ran for a game-high 147 yards on 22 carries.
Graham hit La'Quan Wells for an 18-yard TD reception on fourth down to push the UTPB lead to 17-0 with 9:03 to play in the second quarter.
Midwestern State answered with a six-play, 36-yard drive resulting in a 26-yard field goal by
Joseph Carlson for its lone score of the game and trailed 17-3 at the half.
UTPB junior Gerald Palmer polished off an 11-play, 59-yard drive with a 4-yard scoring run with 3:43 to play in the third quarter, then the Falcons tacked on a 31-yard field by Angel Diaz for the only score of the fourth quarter.
Junior running back
Devin Cross led MSU offensive attack, rushing for 91 yards on 12 carries as the Mustangs closed the game with 253 yards of total offense.
Junior wide receiver
Justin White, Jr. made seven catches for 55 yards, while
Arabia Bradford, Jr. grabbed three passes for 41 yards.
Senior
Larry Donnell headlined the MSU defensive effort with nine solo tackles, while Jahmal Sam recorded an interception in MSU debut.
The Mustangs (2-2, 1-1 LSC) hit the road to face Texas A&M-Kingsville Saturday night at Javelina Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
