WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- No. 12-ranked Midwestern State completes a three-match homestand against rival West Texas A&M in a non-conference clash at Stang Park on Wednesday night at 7 p.m.
The Mustangs are unbeaten this season with a 3-0-2 record, and they are unbeaten in their last 12 regular season matches at Stang Park with a record of 11-0-1.
West Texas A&M was the last team to defeat the Mustangs on home soil during the regular season. At the end of the 2022 campaign, the Buffaloes posted a 1-0 victory at MSU as Rotem Weiss scored in the 11th minute. Asaf Kristal made seven saves to come away with a clean sheet for West Texas A&M.
Midwestern State is coming off back-to-back victories in the MSU Soccer Fall Festival, defeating a pair of ranked opponents. The Mustangs won a bruising battle against No. 14-ranked Fort Hays State, 3-1, and were dominant in a 2-0 triumph over No. 17-ranked Southern Nazarene.
Mere Escobar had a brace in each of the first two home matches to start the season, and the reigningD2CCA Ron Lenz National Player of the Year has six goals in five matches this season. Escobar also has two assists for the Mustangs.
The senior from Austin, Texas, leads the Lone Star Conference and is fifth in the nation in goals scored and total points. He also leads the league and is second in the nation with 4.80 shots per game.
Escobar has 50 career goals at Midwestern State and is the third all-time leading goal scorer in the history of the program. Only Alvin Alexander and Kris Henderson have scored more goals wearing the Maroon & Gold. Alexander netted 58 goals from 1975-1978, and Henderson scored 58 goals from 1987-1990.
Eduardo Cerna and
Samuele Muroni have each scored two goals for the Mustangs. Muroni, a senior from Olbia, Italy, scored the game-winning goal against Fort Hays State in the 84th minute, assisted by redshirt freshman
Skyler Krchnak.
Liam Pritchard leads the conference and is fifth in the nation with four assists. The senior from Hartlepool, England, has assists on three of the goals scored by Escobar.
Midwestern State leads the league with 13 total goals and 2.6 goals per game.
Jakob Stone is 3-0-0 as the goalkeeper for Midwestern State with one clean sheet. Stone has the seventh-best goals against average in the LSC at 1.33 and has made 15 total saves.
Midwestern State has won the last three meetings with the Buffaloes and leads the all-time series, 38-23-5. The Stangs won the last meeting with WT at The Pitch in Canyon, Texas, 4-2. Escobar had a goal and an assist in the victory.

West Texas is 2-3-1 to start the season and is coming off a 4-0 victory over Hawaii Pacific in Nampa, Idaho. D'Jonte Davis, Matteo Landais, Quintin Benn-John and Weiss all scored goals in the second half.
Landais leads the Buffaloes with three goals scored this season, and Gabriel Nevarez has two goals and two assists through six matches.
West Texas A&M goalkeeper Bryce Cottle has allowed six goals and made 15 saves in six matches for WT and has a save percentage of .714.
Midwestern State plays its final non-conference match in San Antonio on Saturday as the Stang Gang visits St. Mary's. Kickoff a Sigma Beta Chi Field is slated for 5 p.m.
