DENTON, Texas -- Freshman Mary Kerr carded four birdies on her way to a 2-under 70 in the second round of the DBU Classic Monday while competing as an individual only at the Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch.

The Friendswood, Texas, native followed up a 74 in her collegiate debut round with another solid score to move into a tie for ninth with a 2-over, 36-hole total of 144.

"Mary is playing very well," MSU coach Jeff Ray said. "She is sitting in good position heading into the final round."

After teeing off on the 10th hole, Kerr notched birdies on consecutive par-4s to finish the Back Nine at 2-under. She faced adversity, but overcame a double bogey on the par-4, sixth hole by marking birdies on the next two holes to close out her first collegiate par-or-better score.

Senior Brecklyn Flanagan fired a 3-over 75 to log Midwestern State's low team countable round of the day, while sophomore Alli Reily marked a 6-over 78. Junior Kodi Nolen and sophomore Madison Wert closed out countable scores for the Mustangs with 7-over 79s.

"This is one of the roughest days we've had on a golf course in a long time," Ray said.

MSU finished with a 23-over team total of 311 to sink to 12th place. The Mustangs, which carded a 8-over 296 in the opening round, are 31 stroke over par through 36 hole as a team.

Dallas Baptist (277-285) lead the way with a 14-under, two-round total of 562 to take a 16-stroke lead over UT Tyler (578/+2). St. Mary's (Texas) (289-291) and Flagler (Fla.) (289-291) are tied for third with a 4-over 580.

DBU sophomore Madison Ude followed an opening round 69 with a 68 for a 7-under total of 137 to take a one-stroke lead over teammate Ella Cheek (70-68).

UT Tyler's Martha Laremark and Arnie Taguines are in a tie for third place with St. Mary's junior Libby Kilbride with 3-under totals of 133.

The final round begins with a shotgun start Tuesday morning at 8 a.m.
