WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State is hosting Mustang Round-Up at Wichita Falls Softball Complex this weekend and the event features six teams, including Midwestern State.
Cameron, Southwestern Oklahoma State, Northwestern Oklahoma State, Northwest Missouri State and Fort Hayes State will all be competing on two fields over a three-day span.
The Mustangs will play five games against four opponents. The first game for MSU is set for noon on Friday against Fort Hayes State.
Midwestern State plays a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 11 a.m. as the Mustangs face Northwestern Oklahoma State. The second game at 3:30 p.m. will be a rematch with Fort Hays State.
The Mustangs face Northwest Missouri State at 10 a.m. on Sunday and wrap up the weekend against Southwestern Oklahoma State at 12:15 p.m.
MSU is coming off a doubleheader split at Mustangs Park on Tuesday. East Central scored three runs in the seventh inning to win the opener, 4-2, but the Mustangs took the nightcap, 5-3.
Sophomore slugger
Allie Monroe from Lawton, Oklahoma, is hitting .500 through six games with three doubles, a home run and eight RBIs to lead the Mustangs offensive attack. Monroe was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored in the Mustangs' win over East Central on Tuesday.
Senior shortstop
Camile Nunez, a transfer from Texas A&M-Commerce, is hitting .350 with a double and an RBI for Midwestern State.
Senior second baseman
Chloe Bryant has been hitting in the leadoff spot for MSU and leads the team with six runs scored. The native of Pleasanton, Texas, has an on-base percentage of .318.
Freshman
Paige Gallegos from Iowa Park, Texas, has had two multi-hit games in her first six starts and had three hits in six at bats during the doubleheader against East Central Oklahoma on Tuesday. Gallegos is hitting .316 at the start of her collegiate career.
Addison Lindemann pitched 15 1/3 innings at the D2 First Pitch Invitational in Conroe,Texas, last week, and after two appearances with one start, the freshman hurler from Holliday, Texas, has an ERA of 0.46. She has allowed one earned run on eight hits with 12 strikeouts and eight walks.
Lindemann did not pitch in the doubleheader on Tuesday after working 8 2/3 innings against No. 19-ranked Rogers State and allowing just two unearned runs on four hits with six strikeouts and five walks on Saturday. She made her collegiate debut against Colorado Mesa in the season opener and threw 6 2/3 innings of relief, allowing two runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks.
Freshman pitcher
Elizabeth Uhl from Arvada, Colorado, started the home opener against East Central and threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing one earned run on six hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Uhl won her first collegiate start as she allowed just one run over four innings in a 4-1 victory over Central Washington at the D2 First Pitch Invitational. Uhl is 1-1 with a 1.31 ERA for the Mustangs.
Senior pitcher
Kennedy Cameron made her second start of the season against East Central in the nightcap on Tuesday and allowed just two earned runs on four hits with four strikeouts and two walks through six innings, but sophomore
Sydney Gonzales was the winning pitcher.
Gonzales is 1-0 with a save after three appearances. She pitched three innings and allowed just one hit to get the save against Central Washington, and was the winning pitcher against East Central after allowing just one hit in one inning of work.
Brittanie Talley is beginning her third season as the head coach at Midwestern State and is the third coach in the history of the program. Talley amassed a 129-75 record (.632) over five seasons at Vernon College earning Texoma NexStar Small College Coach of the Year honors in 2021 after leading the Chaps to a 42-12 mark and advancing to the NJCAA regional tournament.
Midwestern State begins conference play in San Angelo on Feb. 16 and will open its three-game series with Angelo State at Mayer Field. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
Fort Hays State
Fort Hays, which playing its season opener, was 3-1 in the Mustangs Round-Up last season and finished the campaign with a 31-24 record. The 31 wins were the most for the Tigers under head coach Adrian Pilkington, who is beginning her 10th season as the head coach at Fort Hays State. Peyton Shepard, Savanah Egger and Carly Stuke were All-MIAA performers last season, and Sarah Tiffany earned All-MIAA honors in 2022. Fort Hays State leads the all-time series with MSU, 3-2, and won the last meeting, 5-4, at Edmond, Oklahoma, in February of 2022. Midwestern State won the only previous encounter in Wichita Falls, 4-0, in the first-ever meeting between the two schools in March of 2011.

Northwestern Oklahoma State
Northwestern Oklahoma State opens its season on Friday with games against Northwest Missouri State and Fort Hays State at Wichita Falls Softball Complex. The Rangers were picked to finish 10th in the Great American Conference preseason coaches' poll. Northwestern Oklahoma State was 1-3 in the Mustang Round-Up last season, including a 4-2 loss to Midwestern State. The Rangers finished the season with a 13-37 record. Fifth-year senior Hannah Howell hit .329 last season and led Northwestern with seven home runs and 33 RBIs. Howell was 8-13 in the circle last season with a 3.87 ERA.

Northwest Missouri State
The Bearcats opened the season in Arkansas at the Hawkins-McGhee Memorial Tournament. Northwest Missouri State won its season opener 15-6 over Ouachita Baptist as Lauren Gray became the first Bearcat to hit three home runs in a single game. Northwest Missouri State defeated Henderson State, 9-7, as Omara Love drove in three runs and Skylar Pieper went 3-for-3 with two RBIs and three runs scored. The Bearcats also won a rematch with the Reddies, 11-3, in five innings on Sunday. Northwest Missouri State is 3-2 entering the Mustang Round-Up. Gray has 11 RBIs and Abby Nolte has 10. Lilli Filger is hitting .619 (13-for-21). Northwest Missouri State pitching has allowed 53 hits and 33 runs over 32 2/3 innings, but only 22 runs have been earned.

Southwestern Oklahoma State
The Bulldogs make their second-straight appearance in the Mustang Round-Up after going 2-3 last season, including a 10-8 victory over Midwestern State. SWOSU opened this season at the Hawkins-McGhee Memorial Tournament in Arkansas and picked up wins over Northeastern State and Northwest Missouri, but fell to Missouri Southern and Missouri S&T. The 2-2 start is the best start to a season since 2014 for the Bulldogs. Jadyn Hook and Skyla McPhillips combined for 11 hits in the tournament. Blaire Gentry picked up a pair of wins in the circle over 13.2 innings of work, and she delivered what proved to be the game-winning home run in a 1-0 win over Northeastern State. In the final game of the tournament, SWOSU scored four runs in the seventh inning to tie Missouri S&T, 8-8, but a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the seventh inning brought home the winning run for S&T.
