CANYON, Texas -- West Texas A&M's Kyla Kane scored 17 points off the bench, and Karley Motschenbacher logged her third double-double of the season to guide the Lady Buffs to a 67-56 win over Midwestern State Saturday afternoon at First United Bank Center.
WT has won its last three games after dropping five out of seven to open the semester as the Lady Buffs improved to 13-9 on the season and 8-6 in Lone Star Conference play.
The Mustangs (5-16, 5-10) struggled to a 28.8-percent shooting performance and have dropped six of their last seven.
MSU battled back from a 14-point deficit, closing the gap to four points on three occasions in the fourth period.
But Motschenbacher connected on consecutive jumpers after Kane recorded her last field goal of the game to push the WT advantage back in double figures at 62-52 with 2:17 to play.
Motschenbacher finished the game with 15 points and 10 rebounds, while Azia Himeur was the third Lady Buffs scoring in double figures with 11.
Senior
Makayla Coy paced Midwestern State with her fifth double-double of the season, finishing with 16 points and 10 rebounds.
Junior
Zarria Carter pushed her way through early foul trouble to score nine of her 12 points in the second half. She also snared seven rebounds.
Midwestern State returns to D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Thursday night against Eastern New Mexico. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
