Midwestern State wins for second straight week, claims Rattler Invitational team title

SAN ANTONIO -- Midwestern State rolled to its second consecutive team tournament title Tuesday afternoon in the St. Mary's Rattler Invitational at The Dominion Country Club.

Senior Keaton Dickens delivered his second par-or-better by marking three birdies to only one bogey on his way to a 2-under 70. The Iowa Park native recorded scores of 70 and 73 in on day to finish third overall with a 3-under 213.

"We played some pretty steady golf on a perfect day at the course," MSU assistant coach Brad Corley said. "The guys are playing with confidence."

Midwestern State, which was coming off of a victory last week at the Houston Classic, put up team totals of 283, 291, and 289 for a 1-under, 54-hole 863 to win the tournament by two strokes over Dallas Baptist.

The Mustangs boasted four players in the Top 20 which also included senior Robert Garcia, sophomore Seth Bearden, and junior Trevor Walsh.

Garcia logged a tournament-high 44 pars on his way to a tie for sixth with scores of 73, 70, and 73 to close with an even-par 216. It was his second straight Top 10 individual finish.

Bearden totaled 12 birdies over the three rounds of tournament play and chased an opening round 68 with a pair of 75s to finish in a tie for ninth place with a 2-over 218. The Crowell native boasts four Top 10 finishes this season.

Walsh enjoyed his top tournament showing of the season, logging tallies of 72, 78, and 71 for a 5-over total of 221 to tie for 14th.

Junior Gatlin Goad tied for 47th with a 14-over total of 230 (76-73-81), while redshirt-freshman Hank Germany tied for 74th, carding scores of 83, 85, and 74 for a 26-over 242 competing as an individual medalist only.

UT Tyler junior Jay Shero claimed the individual win, firing scores of 68, 69, and 68 for an 11-under total of 205 in his season debut to win by one stroke over Odessa College's Sungyeop Cho (64-70-72).

Midwestern State returns to action on March 18-19 at the Oak Tree Invitational in Edmond, Oklahoma.
