Mustangs close out season on the road

CANYON, Texas -- Midwestern State enters the final weekend of the regular season with a mathematical chance of reaching the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship, but the Mustangs do not control their own destiny and must beat No. 6-ranked West Texas A&M as well as Eastern New Mexico on a two-game road trip.

Following an impressive four-set win at Texas Woman's last Saturday, Midwestern State is 14-13 overall with a 6-8 conference record. With the win at TWU, the Mustangs are 4-4 on the road this season and have won seven of their last 10 matches overall.

Midwestern State is leading the conference and is 19th in the nation with 39.10 attacks per set, and the Mustangs are hitting .200 for the season.

Isabella Dickens leads the team and is 12th in the conference with a hitting percentage of .316, and Gabrielle Oos is hitting .287 for the Mustangs.

Riley Rabedeaux leads Midwestern State and is 13th in the conference with 9.06 attacks per set, while Demi Stauffenberg is 14th in the league with 9.01.

Rabedeaux is 16th in the league with 3.11 kills per set and is hitting .237 for the Mustangs.

The Mustangs are averaging 12.25 assists per set, led by sophomore Alayna Guerrero and senior Brooke Parker. Guerrero is ninth in the league with 6.87assists per set, and Parker is 14th in the conference with 5.5 assists per set. Guerrero surpassed 1,000 assists in her career at MSU, and Parker has more than 700 assists in two seasons with the Mustangs.

Midwestern State is averaging the sixth-most digs per set in the Lone Star Conference with 16.35. Amy DeWalt is averaging 3.53 digs per set, while Stauffenberg is averaging 3.06, and Jenna Redding is averaging 2.72. All three women are among the top-25 in the LSC.

Oos is 14th in the league with 0.85 blocks per set. Dickens has 71 total blocks and is averaging 0.77 blocks per set. Dickens has 34 blocks in conference matches to lead the Mustangs. Oos has 23 total blocks against LSC opponents.
c Midwestern State is 1-41 all-time against West Texas A&M and 0-19 when visiting the Lady Buffs, who have won the last 21 sets against the Mustangs.

West Texas A&M is 21-3 overall with a 15-match winning streak and is 14-0 in conference play this season. The Lady Buffs are 9-1 at home this season, but have won nine straight at The Box since suffering a 3-2 loss to Ferris State in the season opener.

West Texas A&M has only dropped two sets in conference play and has only lost one set at home since falling to Ferris State in five sets on Sept. 5. Central Missouri won the second set in a 3-1 loss to the Lady Buffs on the following day at The Box.

The Lady Buffs have a conference-leading .277 hitting percentage, which is sixth-best in the nation among Division II programs.

Emma Becker leads the team with 2.90 kills per set, while Ainsley Malis and Heather Pemberton lead the Lady Buffs in assists. WTAMU averages 12.64 assists per set.

Taytum Snow of WTAMU leads the conference in blocks per set with 1.26 and 107 total blocks. Bryli Contreras averages 4.35 digs per set.

Midwestern State closes out the regular season at Eastern New Mexico on Saturday.

The Greyhounds are 5-20 overall with a 2-12 conference record, but ENMU is 4-5 at home and has won their last two matches at Greyhound Arena.

Midwestern State is 21-24 in the all-time series with ENMU and has won the last two meetings, including a 3-0 victory in the LSC Preview at Portales earlier this year.

Darcy Dodd leads ENMU in kills with 2.93 per set, and Cayla Reyes averages 5.51 assists per set.

The Lone Star Conference Volleyball Championship runs Nov. 21-23 and is hosted by the No. 1 seed in the tournament.
