Central Oklahoma visits defensive-minded Mustangs

WICHITA FALLS, Texas -- Midwestern State plays its home opener against Rogers State at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Friday night in the first of two Ashbrook Classic games. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. The Mustangs are back on the floor on Saturday to play Central Oklahoma at 6 p.m.

Zarria Carter had a double-double in each of the first two games last week. She opened the season with a 16-point, 10-rebound performance in a 67-57 loss at Colorado Springs. The following day, Carter finished with 24 points and 10 rebounds in a 61-48 loss at Adams State.

Carter is third in the conference with 20 points per game and is the second-leading rebounder with 10 boards per game.

Midwestern State is meeting Rogers State for only the second time in the history of the two programs. The Hillcats visited D.L. Ligon Coliseum nine years ago and came away with a 51-48 victory in the Ashbrook Classic, holding the Mustangs to 26.7 percent shooting from the field.
Central Oklahoma makes its 18th appearance in Wichita Falls and faces MSU for the first time in 10 years. The last meeting between the two schools was in the TWU Pioneer Premiere at Kitty Magee Arena in Denton. Midwestern State won the game, 67-60, despite turning the ball over 32 times and conceding 16 offensive rebounds.

Rogers State is 1-1 to start the season. The Hillcats were picked to finish 13th in both the MIAA Preseason Coaches' Poll and the Preseason Media Poll.

Ella Hafer is the leading scorer for the Hillcats with 14.5 points per game, and she leads the team in rebounding with 9.5 boards per game.

Central Oklahoma is 0-3 to start the season following an 82-71 loss at Drury on Wednesday night.

Korie Allensworth is the leading scorer for the Bronchos with 15.3 points per game, and Jordyn Turner is pulling down eight rebounds a game for UCO, which is starting the season with four games away from home.
Midwestern State wraps up a three-game homestand on Nov. 21 as Oklahoma Baptist visits the Mustangs. Tipoff at D.L. Ligon Coliseum is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
