SILVER CITY, New Mexico -- Midwestern State seeks its second-straight victory and is also looking to defeat Western New Mexico for the second time this season. The Mustangs visit Drag's Court on Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. CDT.
Riley Rabedeaux had 16 kills and finished with a hitting percentage of .500 as the Mustangs swept Sul Ross at D.L. Ligon Coliseum on Friday night, 25-17, 25-19, 25-16. Midwestern State improved its overall record to 7-8 and is 1-3 in conference play.
MSU hit .346 as a team in the win over the Lobos.
Alayna Guerrero had 27 assists, and
Brooke Parker added 19. Parker also had 10 kills and hit .389.
Demi Stauffenberg had 16 of the 38 digs for the Mustangs.
Isabella Dickens leads the team and is 10th in the Lone Star Conference with a .324 hitting percentage. Rabedeaux is hitting .256 for the season.
Gabrielle Oos is 11th in the league with 0.83 blocks per set, and
Jenna Redding is recording 3.41 digs per set, which is 16th-most in the LSC.
Midwestern State leads the league and is eighth in the nation with 40 attacks per set, but the Stangs are 11th in the conference with 12.9 kills per set.
Midwestern State defeated Western New Mexico in the Lone Star Conference Challenge last month in Portales, New Mexico, 25-17, 25-20, 25-11. MSU hit .363 for the match as Stauffenberg had 12 kills and Dickens finished with 11. Dickens and Rabedeaux had four blocks in the victory.
Western New Mexico leads the all-time series, 14-7, and defeated the Mustangs in Silver City last year, 3-0. Midwestern State won the third set, 25-20, but fell in the fourth set, 29-27.
The WNMU Mustangs enter the match with a 5-11 record overall and are 1-3 in conference play. Western New Mexico has a three-match losing streak and is 1-2 at home this season following a 3-1 loss to New Mexico Highlands on Tuesday night.
Chase Kallevig is second in the conference with 24 aces, and Lilouann Behec is fifth in the league with 21 aces. As a team, the Western Mustangs are fifth in the LSC with 1.64 aces per set.
Behec is also fifth in the conference with 4.66 digs per set. Jazmyne Walker leads WNMU with 3.24 kills per set and 3.53 points per set. Eimaya Media leads the team in assists with 6.75 per set.
Midwestern State continues its road trip on Saturday as it faces UT Permian Basin at the UTPB Gym Complex. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
